Habitat for Humanity is an equal opportunity program. Families are selected based upon four criteria:
- Need for adequate housing.
- Ability to pay a Habitat-La Crosse Area mortgage, real estate taxes, and homeowners insurance. This is generally around $550-650 a month depending on the size of the home and property taxes. (See Income Guidelines).
- Willingness to partner. This includes completing 350 hours of sweat equity, participating in credit counseling and any additional training sessions that are offered, demonstrating commitment and responsibility, and being a responsible partner.
- Residency within our service area of Trempealeau, La Crosse, Houston, and Vernon Counties sfor a minimum of 12 months prior to making application.
